tonight its back to the cold and dark
hard grime and dogs
my little pallette on the floor
on st. mary's street, the manchac waits
a shell of a house, i ride up fast to the door
to cut through wind, lift the brick
for the key to this brackish reality
of busted bikes and shopping carts
shrimpnets, bad furniture from 1973
dumpstered lamps all tilted askance
engineered to throw you off balance [...]
